Dr. Rathjen specializes in hip and knee disorders. He performs a large volume of hip and knee replacements, hip resurfacing, arthroscopic surgery, and knee ligament surgery at Baylor University Medical Center. He completed his residency at UT Southwestern and received fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, he is a member of numerous medical organizations. Dr. Rathjen was chosen as one of the first surgeons in the U.S. to train and perform the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. This is a bone conserving alternative to conventional total hip replacements for younger, active patients. Dr. Rathjen has one of the highest volume of cases completed of Birmingham Hip Resurfacing since its FDA release in June 2006.
Dr. Rathjen has been selected as one of the best doctors in Dallas by D Magazine for the last seven consecutive years (2001-2007); Texas Monthly “Super Doctor” in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 and one of the “Best Doctors in America” in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Dr. Rathjen and his wife have three children. His hobbies include the outdoors, exercise, golf and hunting.
